Active Pets & Joint Health

The purpose of our Joint Health Team is to provide feedback, support and education for already/soon to be active dogs and their families. Working and show dogs are exposed to repetitive stresses that can affect joint health and cause mobility issues. Whether your dog love agility training, long hikes or slow walks, sometimes achy joints can slow us down and make us miserable! For these dogs we offer a multi-modal approach to joint mobility and health which offers us several tools to decrease inflammation and pain.  Our options include acupuncture, laser therapy, therapeutic massage and body work, nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals.

At the first hint of lameness, we want to immediately address the issue before long term damage sets in. Ideally, and for the best possible outcome, we do not want to wait until the issue has progressed and requires aggressive intervention. Treatment is often less expensive and has greater efficacy when it is started immediately.

Did you know that active young pets can easily grow into active old pets?  Just as we can grow old and still run marathons (or just exercise regularly for our health), so too can our pets.  Imagine, however, just how hard it would be to take up marathoning for the first time as a senior citizen! It is important to meet the needs of our active (and sometimes not so active) pets to ensure they have the best quality of life for them.

If you have questions or concerns about your pet’s health, give us a call and schedule an appointment to speak with one of our friendly (and very smart!) veterinarians.
